The NYC-based full service boutique civil rights law firm has been serving the LGBTQ community, as well as the straight allies, in both New York and Washington D.C since 2001.
Yetta Kurland (The Kurland Group founder) with Danielle and Kristine, co-owners of LezVolley.
“Because of the work we do in the New-York community, we had heard about the LezVolley tournament years ago. We’ve always thought it was a great event and we are excited to participate – especially since our very own Erica Healey-Kagan is a secret volleyball rockstar (though she’d never brag about it!), says Yetta Kurland, Founder & Senior Partner of TKG. We look forward to continuing supporting the event and will have a TKG team in 2019!”
The Kurland Group sponsored a LezVolley Snapchat filter for the festivities.
A specialization in LGBTQ civil rights
The Kurland Group attorneys firmly believe it is important to have legal representation within the community. The support and understanding is critical to ensuring LGBTQ voices are heard and respected in the legal system.
Some of TKG legal victories for the LGBT community include:
- Won an appellate Court victory confirming the parental rights of same sex couples.
- Standing up to transgender discrimination and winning a settlement of a lawsuit against a national company.
- Fought for and won right for transgender man to have his gender marker accurately reflected in his birth certificate.
- Won a settlement against one of the largest banks in the U.S., charged with discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.
But The Kurland Group handles much more than just LGBTQ matters
From women’s rights to equal pay and Title VII discrimination, TKG has tremendous experience that also includes a wide range of issues such as housing, healthcare, immigration, family and employment law. They provide these legal services for individuals, businesses, and not-for-profit entities.
Their motto? Strive to provide high quality, individualized legal representation for underrepresented communities.
“I am proud of the team at TKG and the way that we work together by using the law to advocate for our community and to think in smart strategic ways to push the envelope towards full equality”, says Yetta Kurland.
The LezVolley team couldn’t be prouder to welcome The Kurland Group as a presenting sponsor, and is looking forward to building a partnership with the firm.
In 2018, the Mixx kept up “the assist” by supporting the LezVolley event through sponsorship of Team Danielle Presents, led by LezVolley’s co-owner Danielle Stanziale.
