Breaking LezVolley history with a DJ on the beach

LezVolley is less than a month away and everyone is getting fired up!

The annual beach volleyball tournament for LBTQ+ women and non-binary individuals will take place on Saturday, August 13th and registration has been closed for months - a testimony to how popular the event has become.

While new players can no longer sign up, the event is open to anyone who wants to come and watch the games or enjoy the festivities of the day. Every year brings new entertainment and surprises to all LezVolley attendees. The latest update for 2022 is nothing less than one for the books…

Get ready to dance on the beach!

Thanks to the support of Haus of Madusa (a safe queer music space) and its founder DJ Cilla BK, LezVolley will host music on the beach during the tournament for the very first time.

What’s in for the players?

Excited to bring high energy to the event, Haus will not only be providing the sound system equipment, but DJ Cilla BK will also be DJ’ing all day to entertain the LezVolley crowd. Each player will also receive draw string bags as part of their welcome package.

In appreciation for their participation in LezVolley, Haus of Madusa is also partnering with LesbianNightLife to offer all players free passes to the Stargaze Festival, the first ever LGBTQ+ women, non binary & trans music and nightlife festival in New England that will take place August 26-28th (value of $250.)

“Haus is honored to be apart of LezVolley which brings a safe lesbian space to the community. The opportunity to bring joy to an event that promotes unity with a dose of competition is exciting and inspiring.”

— DJ Cilla BK

Bringing sound and music to the beach is no easy task due to the lack of electricity on the beach and required the LezVolley and Haus teams to meet on Cherry Grove, Fire Island months in advance for a walkthrough to evaluate potential options for wireless equipment.

About Haus of Madusa

DJ Cilla BK who has been DJ’ing for 10+ years founded Haus of Madusa in 2021 along with her non-profit organization Kreative Haus, to create a safe musical space after a close friend of hers was harassed in a studio for being Trans.

Haus is currently working on a second location in Florida to create safety and visibility to the queer community with limited musical safe spaces and resources.
