Interview with Marisa Corvo

What is your history with LezVolley?

I first heard of LezVolley back in 2014 when I had come onto the LGBTQ scene in New York. I decided to attend the event and ever since I did I look forward to it every year - as long as I’m able to be in town for it! I meet so many new people every time I attend and over the years I’ve made life-long friends that are dear to me. It’s such an awesome event to have girls from all over the Tri-state area gather in one place!

What does it mean for you to sing the National Anthem at an event like LezVolley?

I was invited by the LezVolley owners to sing for the first time in 2021, for the 10-year anniversary. Singing the National Anthem for what I consider being the biggest tournament for women in the world is such an honor and I am so grateful that my talents can be utilized at the games in such a positive way!

For those who have never been, how would you describe the LezVolley event?

LezVolley is the Mecca event of the year. Hundreds of people gather on Fire Island for a weekend of parties, community and volleyball. The island that was once quieter is now buzzing with hundreds of women all ages and from all walks of life for all the same reasons - to have fun, play some ball and party it up with the rest of community for the weekend. There’s a sense of pride and privilege being with all these women for the weekend. There’s nothing else like it in the country. Danielle and Kristine [the co-owners of LezVolley] have done such an incredible job running and promoting the event over the years.

There are many amazing sponsors who do awesome giveaways for players and spectators. I still wear Zara Barrie’s Girls On Jane sunglasses, they’re the best! I even bought a few custom t-shirts from Rachael’s stand (creator of Design by Valentine.) It’s such an amazing weekend that shouldn’t be missed.
