“More queer spaces on Long Island” is Queerli’s mission
If you are queer and live on or close-by Long Island (or have family there) you might rightfully feel like there aren't a lot of spaces for you, not just for dates, but to meet like-minded individuals, to socialize, mingle and befriend others who have gone through similar life experiences.… especially anywhere east of Fire Island.
Introducing Queerli, LezVolley newest Gold Sponsor
In order to fill this need for more spaces on Long Island where queer people can connect, Michelle Demetillo decided to start Queerli, a social club in 2021 that hosted LGBTQIA+ events. This social club grew and evolved to become in 2023 a newly recognized non-profit organization. Queerli is now a community organization that promotes safe spaces for the LGBTQIA+ community, collaborates through diverse and inclusive partnerships, and hosts inclusive events and trainings across eastern Long Island.
The organization strives to:
Help grow the number of businesses that openly advertise that they are LGBTQIA+ friendly,
Create a model for companies to follow and implement in their day-to-day interactions with patrons and staff, and
Host engaging community events for authentic connection and the feeling of community
“I used to take the train to the city or a ferry to Connecticut for dates and queer events before meeting my fiancée. Queerli was born out of a need for more spaces where queer people can connect.”
— Michelle Demetillo (they/she) | Founder + Executive Director of Queerli
Meet the Queerli commitee at LezVolley
For the very first time, Queerli joins LezVolley as a Gold Sponsor and will be on the beach all day during the event, handing out goodies as giveaways! They will also have a fun photo backdrop for all of the attendees to stop by and make memories!
So if you live on Long Island or have friends and family members who do, here’s the time to spread the word about Queerli and their mission!
Queerli will be celebrating their 2nd birthday with a Y2GAY Y2THEY bash to be hosted at the queer-owned spot Locale Gastro Bar, in the LGBTQIA+ friendly town Patchogue, NY on Saturday 8/19.
